🚂 $79M boost for Stuart’s railroad bridge

I realized that while I’m usually busy telling you about everyone else, I haven’t really introduced myself! I’m Melainey Gunning, a local real estate agent serving the Treasure Coast, and I love helping people buy, sell, and relocate to our area.

The Gist: Stuart has received a $79 million federal grant to replace the 100-year-old St. Lucie River Railroad Bridge. The new double-track bridge would give boats more room to pass while continuing to serve Brightline trains and Florida East Coast Railway freight traffic.

Why It Matters: The bridge’s low clearance has long been a headache for boats using the St. Lucie River. The new design would let more than 90% of vessels pass without the bridge opening, cutting down on interruptions for boaters navigating the waterway.

On The Edge Bar & Grill sits right on the water in Fort Pierce, with seafood, pub favorites, cold drinks and live music. The open-air setting is especially nice around sunset, when you can sit on the patio and watch the water.

Mahi tacos, red snapper and the crusted red snapper sandwich are popular picks. Add the friendly service and relaxed atmosphere, and this is one we’re happy to have by the water.

Sunshine Isle Decor is filled with home decor, furniture, florals and gifts, with many pieces made by local vendors. There are wreaths, candles, coastal decor and plenty of smaller gifts, along with homemade snacks and pretzels that regulars love.

The selection changes often, so there’s usually something new to notice, and the warm welcome makes it easy to spend a little extra time looking around.
