We recently had family visiting, and after all this time living in Stuart, we finally made it to Sailor's Return for the first time.

We dined out on the deck, enjoyed great food and service, and the view that early afternoon was just beautiful. It's one of those spots that makes you slow down and actually take it all in.

One thing to know: parking fills up fast, especially in season, but they do offer valet which makes it a lot easier.

Definitely one of those local spots we'll be back to. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's worth checking out!

🌧️ Drought Conditions Ease Across the Treasure Coast

The Gist: All of Indian River County and most of Martin and St. Lucie counties moved from extreme drought to severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor map released April 16. The western part of Martin County and a southwest section of St. Lucie County remained in extreme drought. Drought index levels as of April 16 stood at 300 in Martin County, 100 in St. Lucie County, and 200 in Indian River County.

Why It Matters: Recent rainfall has provided meaningful relief to a region that had been under stress since early in the year, reducing wildfire risk and easing pressure on water supplies, though conditions remain serious in parts of Martin County.

🏡 Massive Senior Living Community Planned for Port St. Lucie

The Gist: Dream Finders Homes is building Reverie at Solaeris, a large age-restricted community with roughly 1,000 homes planned for Port St. Lucie. Located within the broader Solaeris master-planned development, the project is targeted for a Spring 2027 opening, with site preparation already underway. This is a 55-plus community designed specifically for active adult living, with multiple home collections ranging from about 1,475 square feet to over 3,000 square feet.

Why It Matters: A 1,000-home, single-phase senior community is one of the largest of its kind in the region in recent years. At the same time, developments like this tend to boost local economies through construction jobs and long-term demand for healthcare, retail, dining, and recreation geared toward older residents.

🦞 Where Hutchinson Island Lives Up to the View

10900 S Ocean Dr, Hutchinson Island, FL 34957

A trip to Kyle G's Prime Seafood & Steaks makes you feel like you found something special, even though everyone in Martin County already knows it's there. Set right on the Intracoastal Waterway on Hutchinson Island, it occupies a spot where the scenery alone would be enough to fill tables, but chef-owner Kyle Greer isn't content to coast on that.

The menu is built around USDA Prime cuts and the freshest local seafood, which means your options on any given night might include a butter-poached Florida lobster tail, a dry-aged bone-in ribeye, or the crab-crusted grouper that regulars have been ordering since the place opened. The stone crab claws, when in season, are exactly as good as the hype suggests.

🎨 The Fort Pierce Gallery That Proves Local Art Is Having a Moment

500 N Indian River Dr, Fort Pierce, FL 34950

The A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery has been a cornerstone of Fort Pierce's cultural identity for decades, but in the past few years it's become something more: a destination for anyone who wants to understand what makes this region genuinely different from everywhere else in Florida.

The museum rotates exhibitions regularly, hosts gallery talks, and anchors the Fort Pierce arts district on the riverfront just steps from downtown. The staff is genuinely knowledgeable, and the gift shop carries original works and prints that make meaningful souvenirs far removed from the typical Florida kitsch. If you have visitors coming from out of town, this is the stop that makes the whole trip feel intentional.
