If you text me on a Monday or Thursday evening, there’s a pretty good chance I’m over at William G. “Doc” Myers Park in Hobe Sound playing pickleball. I started playing there last year, and it has quickly become one of my favorite local spots to unwind, get some exercise, and catch up with friends. If you haven’t been lately, the pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts were recently resurfaced and look fantastic. Beyond the courts, the park is always buzzing with activity, with baseball games, soccer matches, and families enjoying the outdoors.

What I love most about Doc Myers Park is that it feels like one of those true community gathering places where you always seem to run into someone you know. Whether you’re playing a few games of pickleball, watching your grandkids at baseball practice, or just out for some fresh air, it’s one of those Hobe Sound spots that reminds you why we love living on the Treasure Coast. If you haven’t checked it out recently, it might be time to dust off the paddle or simply take an evening stroll and enjoy everything happening there.

🗑️ Port St. Lucie approves Waste Pro credits

The Gist: Port St. Lucie approved a plan to return its $24 million Waste Pro settlement to residents. Homeowners who have lived in the same home since 2022 will receive a $364 credit, while other eligible residential properties will receive $64.

Why It Matters: This all goes back to the missed pickups and trash service headaches many residents dealt with a few years ago. Waste Pro paid the city to settle the lawsuit, and now the city is sending that money back to residents as credits on property tax bills instead of keeping it in city funds.

What’s Next: Residents who sold one Port St. Lucie home and bought another during the same period may be able to claim the remaining $300 credit. The city plans to set up a 180-day claims process once the details are finalized.

💧 Vero water bills set to rise

The Gist: Speaking of household costs, Vero Beach residents may see water, sewer, and irrigation rates rise through 2030 to help fund a new $164 million One Water plant. A typical customer using 4,000 gallons a month could see their bill climb from about $83 to $122.

Why It Matters: The increases would happen in steps over five years, but they add up. By 2030, the average customer could be paying about $40 more each month.

🍔 Smash burgers and hearty favorites

1103 21st St, Vero Beach

A great burger can be reason enough to return, and Rowdy Rooster Bar & Restaurant has plenty more on the menu besides that. The smash burger, Western Burger, campfire nachos, deviled eggs, and perfectly cooked steaks have earned a loyal following, while cocktails made with fresh ingredients add an extra touch to the experience.

The setting is lively yet comfortable, making it easy to linger over dinner and another round. Whether you're grabbing a casual meal or meeting friends for the evening, the food stands on its own and gives plenty of reasons to come back

🧋 Playtime with snacks included

924 SE Central Pkwy, Stuart

RM Little Town & Boba Cafe makes it easy for kids and parents to enjoy the same outing. They combine imaginative play areas, slides, ball pits, and toddler-friendly spaces with a cozy café serving boba drinks and fresh snacks.

The smaller layout keeps everything within view, so parents can actually sit down and catch up while little ones bounce between pretend play and the train coaster. A few hours here usually ends with happy kids and very quiet car rides home.
